A lot of ladies love matte lipstick, and it’s easy to see why. It’s chic and it makes your lips pop out. However, it’s a little tricky to apply correctly. Here are our favorite matte lipstick how-to’s you can try for flawless-looking lips.
Dry skin on your lips will make matte lipstick look rough and uneven. Exfoliate your lips with a gentle lip scrub (we like mixing brown sugar with a little olive oil) or a wet, soft-bristled toothbrush every other day for a smoother application.
2. Make it last all day
To make your matte lipstick last all day, pull apart layers of a tissue and put one over your lips. Brush some translucent powder on top of the tissue – this will give the lippie more staying power.
Matte lipsticks can dry out your lips. Apply a thin coat of lip balm or lip gloss before putting on some lipstick to keep your lips hydrated.
4. Tone it down
Matte lipstick can look very bold and striking – you can tone it down by applying lip gloss over it for a fresher look.
5. Color within the lines
Outlining your lips with a lip liner before using matte lipstick will help make sure that you don’t add color beyond your natural lip lines.
6. Plump it up
Add more volume to your lower lip by dabbing on powder highlighter over the lipstick, particularly on areas normally hit by light.
7. Get a clean slate
Matte lipstick can be stubborn and hard to remove. If you want to redo your lipstick again, start fresh and wipe it off with petroleum jelly.
